STEFANO GANDIN IS THE FIRST GREEN JERSEY OF IL GIRO DI SICILIA
The Vicentino rider spent more than 180 km in the head of the race in the first stage won by Malucelli
Il Giro di Sicilia starts well for Team corratec that climbs on the podium at the end of the 1st stage, the Milazzo – Bagheria of 199 km, thanks to Stefano Gandin and his courage.
The rider from Vicenza was in fact among the promoters of the action of seven riders which also included Michael Belleri (Biesse Carrera), Nelson Andres Soto (Colombia Tierra de Atletas), Gabriele Petrelli (Cycling Team Friuli), Alejandro Ropero (Eolo Kometa), Guido Draghi (Mg. K Vis), and Francesco Zandri (Work Service Vitalcare), an action always kept at a safe distance from the group who did not want to give the attackers of the day a chance.
Gandin was good at hitting what was his goal of the day, that is to conquer the first GPM of this edition of Il Giro di Sicilia in Tindari and wear the corresponding Green Jersey as leader of the classification.
“Today I wanted to be in the breakaway of the day – Gandin said after the stage – and once inside I gave everything because I know how important this goal is for the whole team. Being awarded at the end of the stage is a great satisfaction and I am sure that you will see us attacking very often because we are in a very important race that we want to honor at best.”
After 180 km at front, the action of Gandin and his fellow adventurers ended and in the final group sprint Dusan Rajovic could not find space closing in the rear while it was Matteo Malucelli (Nazionale Italiana) to celebrate.
Tomorrow 2nd stage from Palma di Montechiaro to Caltanissetta with a challenging finish.
